Walking

Description

Walking by Henry David Thoreau

I walk every day in the woods near my New Hampshire home, often on trails through conservation land. And when I do, I know I’m walking in the same kind of landscape that Henry David Thoreau once traveled and found so inspiring.

Applewood Books’ slender paperback edition, perfect for tucking into a backpack, shows how Thoreau’s 1862 essay on walking remains a thoughtful and relevant read today. He writes about slowing down, appreciating the moment, and really letting nature envelop all your senses.

Thoreau’s words convey a deep understanding of why our wild public lands are so important to preserve and protect, and this book is a lovely introduction to his work. —Heather Marcus, Yankee senior photo editor

In this charming little book, Henry David Thoreau treats his subject as if it were a walk itself. As he wanders, so do his thoughts. Thoreau walked both for exercise of mind and body and as a way of exploring his inner and outer worlds.
